Somers Furniture celebrates 25 years as a woman-owned business

Somers Furniture (Somers), manufacturer of custom furniture and furnishing provider for convention rentals and special events, was established in March 1989. The initial focus was to serve the needs of rental furniture for the convention, hotel and casino industries.

Owned by CEO Debbi Somers, the WBE Certified furnishing firm has faced many successes as well as challenges over the past 25 years. Having grown from a 10,000 square-foot rented warehouse with one employee, one rented truck and limited inventory, the company now owns a 57,000 square-foot warehouse, a company-owned fleet of trucks and an inventory in excess of $2 million. Employing 20 full and part time employees, each of its three divisions has a female manager in charge.

After 9/11 and the most recent economic problems, Somers Furniture, like many exhibition industry firms, faced serious challenges and needed to increase its cash flow to maintain viability. Rather than cut back on operations and personnel, Somers decided to expand business to include custom manufactured furniture for the hospitality industry, special events and an outdoor furniture line sold nationally.

Proud of the success the firm has achieved in its Custom Division, Somers shared that her company exclusively uses the talents of in-house personnel. Somers Furniture has assisted in the design, construction and installation of major projects for companies in the Las Vegas area including pool lounges at major casinos such as Bare at Mirage Hostel & Casino, Rehab at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Palms Pool & Spa, Venus at Caesars Palace Hotel & Casino, Daydream at The M Resort, Riviera Pool and DAYLIGHT Beach Club at Mandalay Bay Resort; at nightclubs like House of Blues, SHe by Morton’s at Aria, Vanity Nightclub at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Foundation Room at Mandalay Bay Resort, Mix at The Hotel, Gold Diggers Nightclub at Golden Nugget, VooDoo Lounge at Rio Hotel & Casino; boutique hotels such as Rumor Boutique Hotel, Artisan Hotel Boutique and Royal Resort Vegas; and other venues including Amp Salon at Palms Casino Resort, Spa at Palms Place, Morton’s Steakhouse, McCormick & Schmidt, Mario Barth’s King Ink at Mirage Hotel & Casino, and Born & Raised Bar.

Showcased twice a year at the Furniture Market at the Las Vegas World Market Center, orders for Somers Furniture’s outdoor retail line are shipped all over the U.S. It is also featured on Houzz.com, which is the leading online platform for home remodeling and design, while HGTV Scott Brothers Entertainment is showcasing both Somers Furniture warehouse and install of its purchased outdoor furniture at a local residential location in May and June of this year.

“Somers [Furniture] is very grateful for the success it has accomplished in the Las Vegas community,” said Somers. “As a corporate citizen we have a responsibility to give back to the community, and we enthusiastically support charities, such as Goodie Two Shoes Foundation, AFAN, The Center Honorarium, Dress for Success, Cronin’s Disease Marathon, Walk for MS and ALS Walk.”

While being one of the largest women owned business in Las Vegas, Somers has been asked and accepted political invitations to host rallies at her warehouse and her house, passing all security background checks for both business and personal. One such occasion was Mitt Romney’s campaign speech in city after talking about the American Dream of owning your own business like Debbi Somers.

Somers Furniture’s success can be attributed to the dedication and talents of its employees as well as keeping its focus on its mission statement: To provide quality merchandise and superior service at competitive prices.
