Outdoor storage units stand up to summer heat

It’s a fact that summertime can be fun and living can be easy, but if you live in places like Las Vegas or other climes that warm up a lot, summertime can also be a challenge. Interestingly it seems that Las Vegans do a switch sometimes when the temperature changes. We tend to be outside more when the weather is what most describe as spring and fall, and some of us are indoors more when others use summer as the time to be outside. Somers furniture manufactured the benches in the water fall courtyard

For years, Las Vegas has been a place where thoughtful architecture goes to die, with cookie-cutter stucco homes, strip malls and mid-rise office buildings blanketing the valley. The luxury-home market is no different, with supersized Tuscan-style mansions stuffed with the same toys and amenities. Homebuilder Tyler Jones, however, is adding a dash of style to this look-alike landscape. Jones, through his Las Vegas company Blue Heron, is developing three communities of high-end, desert-themed luxury homes in Henderson and has built custom homes around the valley. He founded the company with his father and has been in business for a decade, getting project sites that flopped under previous owners and racking up numerous design and environmental awards from construction-industry groups. The 37-year-old Las Vegas native tries to blend indoor and outdoor space, and subtly packs his cube-shaped homes with electronics. The design, he said, is “Vegas Modern.” At his four-bedroom, 5,800-square-foot model home at Sky Terrace — a development off Sunridge Heights Parkway near Eastern Avenue — most doors are automated, glass pocket-doors that glide completely into the walls. Outside, the courtyard has a water wall, fire pit and flat-screen TV. There are three other fire pits, including on the rooftop “skydeck,” which also boasts a wet bar. There are more than 20 flat-screen TVs scattered around the house, with several hidden behind mirrors, including two alone in the master bathroom. The kitchen bleeds into the living room, and walking around the house, it can take a while to realize that bedrooms and hallways are nowhere in sight. “We want it to feel open,” Jones said. Most luxury homes...

Somers Furniture Rental Staged the Following Home

Sometimes, it takes a house listing with a bullet hole to bring back a little Las Vegas history. Two weeks ago, mob associate Frank “Lefty” Rosenthal’s former home at 972 Vegas Valley Drive was placed on the market. The 3,266-square-foot, three-bedroom historical Las Vegas Country Club residence was built in 1970. It’s priced at Vegasy $777,000. Clark County assessor office’s records show a San Francisco-based company purchased the home for $615,000 in 2011. Brian Burns with Synergy/Sotheby’s International Realty has the listing. The home has a bullet-proof glass wall extending from ceiling to floor behind the staircase. Outside is the 10th tee of the gated community’s golf course where, allegedly, FBI planes landed. The chipped glass, long suspected to be a bullet hole, along with the midcentury modern architecture have been preserved by all the previous owners. In the garage is a small box of modern technology for a smart home next to a clunky system three times its size — the 1970s version of a smart home. Today, the dwelling is outfitted with a Savant smart-home system, which is controlled by the owner’s smartphone. Rosenthal, who illegally and with mob influence operated four Las Vegas casinos — the Stardust, Fremont, Hacienda and Marina — from the home, had the place wired with the best technology of the day. He had the house outfitted with heavy front doors that are bullet-proof, sound-proof rooms (said to keep the FBI from hearing his conversations) and hidden gun compartments. Burns said after the neighbor’s home burned a few years ago, it was discovered the two residents were connected with a secret underground...
